How is the gold price in the UAE set?
From the world gold price, which is quoted in US dollars per troy ounce. We convert it to dirhams at the fixed rate of 3.6725 and to grams (one troy ounce is 31.1035 g), then add our spread. Most gold sellers in the UAE work from the same world price.
Why is the buy price higher than the sell price?
The gap is called the spread, and it is how Lumos earns. For gold it is about 1.5% each way. For silver it is about 5% when you buy and 0.3% when you sell. There is no other fee when you pay by bank transfer.
What is the difference between 24K, 22K and 21K gold?
Karats measure purity. 24K is 99.99% pure gold. 22K is 91.6% gold, and 21K is 87.5%, mixed with other metals to make jewellery harder. Lower purity means a lower price per gram. Jewellery prices also include making charges.
